Science under Pressure – Between Attack and Action
Science is under increasing pressure: populist narratives, right-wing extremist attacks, disinformation and hate campaigns threaten researchers as well as the scientific system itself – nationally and internationally.
In this talk, Matthias Fejes will highlight current developments, analyze the underlying dynamics, and present strategies for how scientific institutions and democratic societies can respond to these challenges – with the aim of strengthening the resilience of science and society and thus contributing to the protection of democracy.
Following the input by the speaker, there will be space for discussion, questions, and exchange among participants. The session will be held in English and take place online.
The event is part of the mentoring program and also open to mentees from mentoring initiatives at other German universities – fostering cross-institutional networking and exchange among early-career researchers.
